When I got out of prep school and went to college, I was only about 30 minutes from a football scholarship... I went a little girl crazy.
One in particular that I remember and all my friends warned me off of her cause she was, uh, she belonged to a Baltimore Colt had been there the year before. I didn't pay much attention...
Back in '62 there came a brand new girl to school, Knew I had to get her
Everybody told me I'd never get busted for my cool but I was getting' better
so then I asked a friend who used to win the girls, would he try and help me win her?
he said "I don't know son; your style ain't good and your manner's are bad,
you don't love Jesus and the truth ain't in you"
so I started tryin' to get her attention, in little subtle ways like,
diving down the stairs in front of her,
runnin' my pants up the flagpole,
streakin in the dormitory,
none of it seemed to work
So, I went back to the same friend that I'd talk to before and he said I'd have to study her movements a little bit...and find out when I could get her alone. I found out she went to the laundrymat's on Tuesdays and I could probably find her there...So I did
she said the laundrymat ain't where it's at, you shouldn't try to call and courtin's a problem
now she gonna call her friend, a coach 310, seven feet tall, he came to stop her
I said if you say yes, I'll try my Sunday best, there ain't hardly nothing I can think of I wouldn't do to win you
She said I don't know about you boy, You're complexion bad, your breath stink, you ain't as clever as you think,
You don't love Jesus and the truth ain't in you
the truth ain't in you
You're complexion bad, your breath stink, you ain't as clever as you think
don't love Jesus and the truth ain't in you
the truth ain't in you
